I read an article written by the Washington Examiner yesterday stating that the DC area home market is one of the strongest across the United States. The main two reasons are written below with the correlating graphs that they had featured.

The full article can be found here. Take a few minutes to read it. There are a few other interesting items that the author points out about the housing market and whether it really is on its way to recovery.
- Local home prices are 78% above their January 2000 levels compared with a composite 20 city average of 45%. Total growth over a 10 year time period is also much higher than the 20 city average.
- Unemployment rates continue to be low in the DC Metropolitan area. DC has a joblessness rate of 6.9 which is considered the second best rate in the country. If you review the graph, it become clear that DC continues to have one of the strongest job markets in the nation which in turn fuels demand for housing.
